Game Design “Blocker” [Penzu]

Tue. 8/11/2020:

I don’t know how to design a game.

I want to… But I don’t know how…

Methodology aside, I don’t know how /where to start. And I don’t know how to use the game engine.

I know how to draw/art (though my skills are still limited (practice makes perfect))

I know how to code… Again (practice makes perfect) but I don’t know how to make a game.

Every time I open the game engine to ‘have a go’ I freeze up. Or I start guessing what I need to do… And get nowhere!

Solution: find a tutorial

Follow along a step by step guide on how to use the engine and / or how to make a game.

I did this with a 3D RPG and finished the tutorial series (for Unreal Engine) and found it useful. Just need to do the same.

End goal: know the fundamentals of the engine and how to design a game by NaNoWriMo (November).

Stretch: plan out the equivalent NaNoWriMo goal of 1600 words in games design process e.g. create a sprite, create an event, create a tileset…
